This is my setup for a total of $100. I'll set it on a sturdy surface and marked graduations on a 2x4 painted white. Reads dead nuts level when checking across my pond (300feet) the laser dot is about 1.5 inches in dia at that point requiring me to estimate the center though.

WOODS 7500 OR 9000 AND ANYTHING ELSE LESS THAN 10 FT DEPTH AND UNDER 1500 LBS TOTAL WEIGHT. I HAVE 970 WITH THE 7500 AND AM HAPPY WITH IT, THOUGH I CAN SEE WHERE THE EXTRA REACH NOT SO MUCH DEPTH COMES IN HANDY.

IF YOU GO ON THE SMALL SIDE YOUR TRACTOR WONT MIND THE 3PH HOOKUP WHICH WILL SAVE YOU GROUND CLEARANCE COMPARED TO SUBFRAME.

Dont plow in the mud, you will get less traction (you know that) and you got more friction against the boards.

Also you might want to wear off any paint thats on the face of the boards. Once the faces are shiny and you park the plow, put a coat of grease on it.

And also play with shortening on sway link or the other to take less of a bite. dont give up.

Also look into red clover, I think you'll get a bigger, leafier plant.

check fluid and all those others that Mr. Greenjeans mentioned and this might be SITD but my 970 w/80 loader has movement lock that locks all joystick movement or just bucket curl.

I have the 7500 on my JD 970 with frame mount and pto pump and it works great. I dont have rear remotes so that effected my choosing. Rear remotes would be nice to have for other stuff but human nature will make you buy more expensive implements because you have them :).

IMO I think the seperate pump is cleaner functioning because the hyd. circuit stays closed. When I remove my loader, I always have a puddle of fluid on the ground and always looking for a rag to wipe off hands.

I have the 8in and 24in and dont regret it either.
For example: 1) An eight inch trench footing or rat wall takes a lot less concrete to fill than a 12in. 2)Also smaller the bucket the more PSI force is put in to the ground for breaking through frost or hard clay. 3) when burying 4in pipe you have 2in on either side which perfectly fits a sledge hammer head for compacting sand during backfill (also the less sand you need to use). 4) The less earth that is disturbed the less that will have to settle and crossing back filled trench with wheeled vehicles creates less of a crush potential.

The 7500 has no problem handling the 24" in 95percent of soils.

The dealer said woods delivers hoe with any sized bucket attached at the same price so I got the biggest they had and the extra 8in was $190 if I remember correctly. This was spring of 2000.

Now if you see yourself burying alot of 12in culvert get the 12 or 16in.

Also look at bradco hoes they seem awesome but dont know about price.

I mowed this fellows lawn with his tractor and 8' caroni rear discharge and it distributed it evenly. This was about 5 years ago and the mower was about 5-10 years old at the time. Seemed to be made well but like all the other wheel brackets that are stressed because they are stamped or bent out of straight, flat stock this mower had 3 wheels on the ground and one going along for the ride.

I can't comment on much being I have never used on of these,
but I do believe the Landpride is the same as typical spreaders found at TSC and other farm supply store for 300-400 bucks.
They are made in Italy for all kinds of brands.

whatever you decide on keep it well lubricated by spraying it down with diesel fuel.

I have tilled a few gardens with mine and use that rock collecting feature as an advantage, once the parallel rows that make up the size of the garden are done, I'll make two perpendicular passes on the ends and tell the customer that all your rocks are in those two piles, they like that.

If the surrounding grass is nice, I'll finish the row and backup to start the next to avoid turning around in the grass that way there is only one perpendicular row and one pile of rocks (combined with soil of course).

1997 4x4 loader 443hrs $14,000
1993 4x4 loader 397hrs $13,500

so that tells me your 870 aint a great deal but average and by no means "high".

An answer to your other question, 440 loaders were also put on 970s and 1070s so aside from hydraulic pump differences, strength should be about the same as 430. Chuck from greenias told me back when 440s came out he thought they were too loose and noisy compared to what they replaced (80 loader)

stanley, roughly 3500-4000 dollars to have somebody do it. more if ratwalls are required. ready mix concrete prices vary to much to nail it down.

Gary, I welded and bolted U.S. made forged tow hooks on the ouside top of bucket as close to the welded joint of the side plates as I could with a slight inward angle (10 or 20 degrees) from tractor centerline.

I have a jd 970 it may or may not have heavier steel but additional 1/4 inch plates would not have hurt.

the tow hooks are the same ones for 4x4 trucks. I stay away from chinese cast iron (pintle hooks, tow hooks, bench vises etc.)

At the time I worked for a seat belt company and had an excess of 5000# obsolete webbing to work with so I figured these wide mouthed hooks would work better and they did. they also work with 3/8 chain but I sometimes now I wish they were 3/8 chain hooks instead.
